It is now Week 4 of my “Dangling on a limb” story. I’ve had a chance to ‘thaw out’ a little on the hot plate. By no means is the meal ready! It is going to be an exciting experience.

If you’re wondering whether I have cold feet or not……What do you think? I just came out of the freezer!

No, I’m joking. Surprisingly, this feels right to me… hence I have not freaked out yet.

I have started to jot down ideas, but will they bounce?

Looking for sweaty racquet-ball players. I am very much an ideas-person. I look for patterns. I love it. However, it can be pure agony to operate in a vacuum. I cannot stand it when the spring tightens ready to pop, as I look around desperately for someone to discuss my ideas with!

That’s my analogy for the magic that happens when I find someone who “gets” what I’m trying to do, and can “play a good sweaty all-out racquet ball game” with me. The game is not to win or lose. It is the exhilaration and satisfaction that I imagine only professionals experience from executing a game where the strokes are powerful, the ball fast, the moves strategic, the play smart, and the ringing in the ear booms even after I leave the court!

There is no excitement playing a sport by myself, when the ping-pong ball stares back at me from the floor unable to lift itself back up on the table to continue the dance. Think of calls you made but were never returned. Think of echoes in an empty room that remind you eerily, that you are alone.

Looking for good sport partners has been a lifelong quest for me….

I have a project now that begs for good racquet-ball energy, better still, atom-colliding cold-fusion energy! I always have to hold back my ideas until I know the person would not throw my ball into the can! I have encountered that a few times where I’ve had to snatch my ball back.

That’s okay. One day I will go to heaven. Heaven will be a racquet-ball club where everyone holds a racquet, everyone knows how to volley and everyone sweats! Seriously….I know the right people will show up who are crazy enough to go on that high flyer ride with me, to co-create something bigger than the sum of the parts.

I will be hosting my first conference call for my group and friends, on August 7 2008 (Thursday) at 8pm EDT. I hesitated this long because I had not done one before.

You have all read my first blog by now, and waiting for me to fill in the background to the story. Okay, you’ll have to watch my video at the end to get the full story.

Why did I do what I did?

From freezer to burner

It is true that my husband and I had talked about setting up a charitable organization after we had secured our own retirement. All discussions to that point had been vague, because it would be in the distant future. I had my own idea of whom I wanted to support. My husband had his own. Because it wasn’t imminent, it didn’t go much further. After all, it was going to be in the distant future….

Well, it is interesting how, under certain circumstances (to be explained) when one opens up one’s mind to possibilities much like acting on a whim, things happen. ‘Someone’ went to the freezer, fished out ‘something’ that was frozen rock solid, and plonked it on the front burner. That ‘someone’ looked straight into my eyes and asked “Why not now?”

That ‘someone’ was me.

I have to say it didn’t feel weird at all. It even felt right. I proceeded to make a video. The video was a response to a challenge at the time posted by Brian Campbell for those who wanted him as a mentor in his new training program called PRISM.

The Challenge

I had been a student of social media marketing for a while but new on Facebook. I had intentionally ignored the hype around a guy who basically declared he was going to show everyone he could make $10,000 in 30 days on Facebook. We see similar outlandish claims on the internet all the time. Then I vaguely heard that he had exceeded his own goal. Ho hum, good for him.

I was preparing a presentation to a local business group when I thought the audience would be interested to know how people can make money on Facebook.

I decided to research Brian Campbell.

It was around that time that Brian flew to Vancouver, Canada to hand over a $10,000 check to a certain John Chow. I watched with interest as I learned the short history. With some skepticism I checked out Brian's free tutorials on http://www.internetmarketinguniversity.com/

To my surprise, they were excellent!!

I confess I resented and resisted signing up for his training series initially. When I finally did, I used my cat’s name instead.

I sat through hours of Brian’s training. I was in awe. He gave me the missing pieces I had searched for a long time. I could not believe he was offering all that training for free! Brian had earned my gratitude, and respect. Here is someone who obviously knows what he’s doing, done it, proved it, showed it, gave $10,000 away, and is now offering a mentorship program.

Brian cleverly created a buzz, a sense of urgency, and a sense of exclusivity. He even required his hopeful contenders to follow him on Twitter, where he was going to drop hints on how to qualify for scholarhips into his program. He had all of us tune in to every tweet all day July 2nd, 2008 lest we miss an important clue. He was in control of the strings. He’s definitely a master. I was dancing like the others….because I wanted in.

I created the group I said I was going to create on Facebook.

I put myself on a limb.

I have now made known my intention, on the belief that if it is something I’m meant to do, I will meet the right people, ideas will come, doors will open, and things will happen.
Like I said, I had NOT planned to fast forward this track, at all!

It just happened.

I am starting this project from ground zero, with nothing - no plan, no funding, no experience. Nada. Just some ideas.

When the student is ready, the teacher appears.

All of you will get to watch me as if on Reality TV.

As I take on this journey I pray for guidance and inspiration. It’s my journey of GROWTH.

It is going to be EXCITING.

Many women now run businesses. Why not the Women In Transition?

This is my first blog to document my intention to achieve a goal I had only thought about vaguely in the past.

Why am I doing this? I will have to tell my story in another blog.

Entrepreneurs United To Empower Women In Transition is actually the name of a group I created on June 30 on Facebook. It is open to anyone.

I am appealing to entrepreneurs (men & women) to teach Women in Transition (WIT) on HOW TO BECOME ENTREPRENEURS. The group had grown to 45 members after only 5 days.

This blog will describe my journey, my thoughts, and the people I meet as the universe shapes the outcome of my intention.

Here's my vision:
I want to teach the Women In Transition how to pull themselves up by the bootstraps by being entrepreneurs, not employees.

In other words, I want to teach them how to make money.
I want to empower them to take responsibility.
It could be the most empowering thing they have ever experienced.

Why entrepreneurs?
I believe entrepreneurs are creative and are empowered. Entrepreneurs also keep the wealth circulating.

There are many organizations that share the same vision, supporting different niches within the "Women in Transition" category. How is this one different?

My focus is NOT to counsel the women on their psychological or physical healing, or even to teach the women basic job skills.
All those are important. I’d rather leverage existing programs for that.

My niche is to teach WIT who are entrepreneurially-inclined to take control of their lives to build a business where they can be in full control.

I’d like them to be entrepreneurs leveraging the internet and social media, because I believe that is where the opportunities currently are.

I started this group to attract:

1. People who are interested in SERVICE

2. People who believe that CHARITY IS THROUGH EMPOWERMENT

3. People interested in helping WOMEN IN TRANSITION

4. People who understand the power of the ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT

If this resonates with you so far, please read on.

These are the people I’d like to hear from:

They know a lot about the different internet business models that could work for WIT

They have personal experience as a WIT, or have knowledge of successful case studies

They believe in the concept of Paying It Forward

They are willing to participate in a mastermind group to evaluate and create new business models for WIT

They are skilled in designing systems, business joint ventures, etc.

I am very excited at the thought of tapping into the hearts and brains of successful entrepreneurs. The energy from such a group would be powerful.

What’s in it for you?
I don’t know. You’re the entrepreneur. You can figure out the win-win line.

Let me give you my working Definition of “Women in Transition”.

WIT can be described as women without a viable long term source of income necessary to survive as a result of

1. Economic downturn

2. Unwise debt accumulation

3. Family/spousal abuse, death or divorce

4. Being caught in the welfare system

5. Having few skills

6. Having low self esteem/confidence

These are women likely with young children, currently totally or partially dependent on the welfare system, friends/family/charitable organizations to survive.

Sad to say, some have actually learned to game the system.

I want to break that cycle.

My Definition of “Charity” is NOT to hand out fish.

It is to teach them HOW TO FISH.

If it is taught right, they will PAY IT FORWARD… by teaching others how to fish.
